Test Reports / Certifications – Daikin Streamer Technology Air Purifier

In a consequence of the risks associated with Covid-19, the efficiency of Daikin’s patented Flash Streamer technology to eliminate the causative SARS-CoV-2 virus was tested. Daikin’s technology was proven to inactivate more than 99.9% of the novel coronavirus.

Vienna, December 4, 2020 – Leading HVAC-R company Daikin confirmed the effectiveness of its patented Flash Streamer technology, which successfully inactivated more than 99,9% of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) after irradiating the virus for 3 hours. The positive results of Daikin’s technology on the coronavirus are just the first step in being able to paint a more accurate picture as to the effectiveness of their clean air solutions against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Further tests will be performed on specific Daikin products to ensure accurate and correct information about products in this regard.

Highly Effective Technology

Daikin is pleased that the innovative Flash Streamer technology was proven to be highly effective against the coronavirus after comprehensive testing. Daikin Industries Ltd in cooperation with Professor Shigeru Kyuwa from the Department of Biomedical Science of the University of Tokyo and a group of research led by Professor Shigeru Morikawa from the Department of Microbiology of the Okayama University of Science conducted the experiment to determine the effectiveness of Daikin’s patented Flash Streamer technology against the coronavirus. In the experiment, the viruses were irradiated for 3 hours using Daikin’s Flash Streamer technology.

The results of this experiment showed that:

  • Flash Streamer discharge inactivated 93,65% of coronavirus (SAR-CoV-2) after an irradiation time of 1 hou
  • Flash Streamer discharge inactivated 99,97% of coronavirus (SAR-CoV-2) after an irradiation time of 3 hours

Further Experiments Needed

The aforementioned tests were not designed to evaluate product performance, furthermore it should be noted that experiments of this kind are conducted under laboratory conditions that differ from those found in standard living situations.

Daikin is committed to providing accurate and correct evidence with regard to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the company will seek further testing on products equipped with the highly effective Flash Streamer technology.

As of writing, a timeline of when these tests will take place has not been set yet , however, fully comprehensive information on the efficacy of products, will be provided as soon as the additional testing is completed.

About Daikin’s Flash Streamer Technology

The Flash Streamer technology was developed by Daikin in 2004 to perform an oxidative decomposition of harmful substances. The Streamer discharge is a type of plasma discharge featuring an innovative air purification technology that stably generates high-speed electrons. The massive streamer discharge hits viruses, mould, bacteria, allergens and hazardous chemical substances decomposing and fragmenting their surface proteins, which are then destroyed through oxidation, rendering the virus safe. The streamer discharge then breaks down into safe nitrogen and oxygen atoms and water molecules.

Its oxidative decomposition capability is much higher than conventional plasma discharge used in standard technologies, resulting in an oxidative decomposition speed that is nearly 1,000 times greater. Moreover, when combined with air components, these high-speed electrons have a capability for powerful oxidative decomposition that continuously removes odours, bacteria and indoor pollutants such as formaldehyde.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The tests described herein only concern the patented Flash Streamer Technology. The effects of products equipped with Flash Streamer Technology or the effects in actual use environment may differ. For more information on the Daikin products incorporating the Streamer Technology, please refer to the relevant product information.
